Internet Safety For Eugene Kids

No Eugene parent wants their child to be exposed to Internet pornography, however, this tragedy occurs everyday. Why is there such a disconnect?

Some Eugene parents may not realize that their young child can navigate the computer like a pro. Others may believe that their child would never go looking for inappropriate material.

If you think your Portland kids are too young to worry about it, don’t be so sure. Oregon parents continue to report that they found out too late that their child was exposed. I urge you to take precautions now.

With Internet pornography increasing everyday and young people succumbing to this cybermonster, Portland parents wonder what they can do to prevent this from ever happening to their kids.

This advice bears repeating: Eugene parents should put the computer in an open area so that it can be monitored. In addition, many forms of web protection are available for free. Though it is time-consuming, Eugene parents would be wise to only allow their child use the Internet with Mom or Dad present.

Talk to your kids and ask them if they have encountered Internet pornography. Ask them what they did or what they would do in such a situation. Though this is a secondary concern: explain to them that certain web pages and ‘pop ups’ contain viruses that can damage the computer. Open communication is essential.

If your Eugene children have encountered pornography, perhaps at a friend’s house, emphasize its destructive nature and teach them that what they saw is degrading to men, women, and healthy relationships. Internet pornography is a plague with many Eugene victims, including children. It is up to Eugene parents and youth leaders to help Eugene children be safe online.

Portland Injuries: Get The Ice, Fast!

If your Portland kids are active on the field, the court, or in your own backyard, chances are you have dealt with many bumps, bruises, and sprains. Prompt medical care can make all the difference when it comes to how quickly an injury heals.

Despite medical advancements, when it comes to a sprain, strain, break, or bruise, the best way to reduce pain and swelling is the same as when you were a kid: apply ice.

For the best DIY ice bag, fill a zip-top bag with ice cubes or crushed ice and a little water. The liquid will help the bag conform to the body and distribute the cold evenly. You can also use the frozen peas trick, which does essentially the same thing.

Don’t apply the bag to bare skin, however. This could cause frostbite or even a burn. Wrap the pack in a thin towel or article of clothing.

Don’t take the ice off too soon. Removing it after just a few minutes, when the skin is cold to the touch, won’t have a lasting effect. Leave ice on the injury until the area goes numb, but not more than 20 minutes. Repeat this once an hour for up to four hours.

Remember to get the ice on as soon as possible. Preventing and reducing inflammation speeds up the healing process. The sooner you get ice on it, the sooner your Portland child will be back in action.

Fun Exercise Ideas For Bend Or Kids

When I was growing up in Bend Or, my friends and I never ran out of things to do, and most of our activities provided at least a little bit of exercise. I have fond memories of playing kick-the-can on warm summer nights and swimming at the old Bend Or community pool.

Unfortunately, many of today’s Bend Or kids spend hours daily in sedentary activities. Exercise benefits our physical, mental, and emotional health. Perhaps you might enjoy participating in some of these with your son or daughter.

Individual vs. Team Sports For Portland Kids

There are growing numbers of kids in the Salem area involved in team sports. Participating in these activities can be a very positive experience for Portland kids. They can enhance health and fitness, social maturity, and even cognitive development.

What if your child doesn’t want to participate in organized team sports in your Oregon community? Perhaps they have yet to develop the skills necessary or find team sports too competitive or intimidating.

Fortunately, Salem children who participate in individual sports or even simple playful activities can receive the same benefits. With a team, the child has a coach to guide and encourage them in the chosen sport. Absent the team and coach, the guidance can come from the active role parents play in their child’s chosen sport.

Oregon parents who playfully nurture their child by playing catch, shooting baskets, or tossing pitches, encourage skill and personal development without the possible downsides of competition.

Many parents in Portland are organizing non-competitive sports groups. These allow kids to experience sports, meet new friends, and enjoy the improved health and fitness that comes from being active.
